Finance

Perennial Services Group is a national, market-leading platform of more than 37 local brands across landscaping, turf, pest control, arbor, irrigation, and plant health care, with more than 1,900 employees nationwide. Backed by Brentwood Associates and Tenex Capital Management, we partner with the founders and management teams of best-in-class home services businesses and support them with centralized marketing, sales, finance, and operations infrastructure that drives scalable, sustainable growth in premium local markets. Our mission is to be the home for the best entrepreneurs, brands, and businesses in home services: we leverage our collective resources, expertise, and passion to help our teams reach their full potential, while honoring the legacies our Partners spent decades building.

We are scaling quickly, and we are building the finance bench to match. We are looking for an Assistant Controller to own the accounting function for a portfolio of our partner companies and become the financial backbone the teams running them rely on.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an Assistant Controller to own the accounting function across a portfolio of 8 to 10 of Perennial’s partner companies, working in close coordination with the local management teams who run them and with the corporate finance team.

This is a high-ownership, individual-contributor role, and it is genuinely multi-entity. Your portfolio is not a set of branches under one company. It is 8 to 10 separate, independently operated businesses, each an established brand with its own history, its own systems, and its own way of running. You will personally manage the full accounting cycle for every one of them: running month-end close, owning reconciliations, and building the processes and discipline that give our operators and leadership team reliable financial visibility. You will own your portfolio end to end, reporting into the Corporate Controller and working closely with the CFO.

Why Build Your Career at Perennial

Plenty of accounting roles ask you to run someone else’s process inside a rigid corporate stack. This one is the opposite. You own a portfolio of real businesses, you build the way the accounting runs, and you do it with the resources of a national platform behind you. Here is what that means day to day.

  • Real ownership, not a cog seat. You own the accounting for your portfolio from open to close, and your fingerprints are on every process you build.
  • The platform of a national company. Modern, scalable ERP and systems, best practices shared across more than 37 local brands, and a corporate finance team that treats you as a genuine peer.
  • We think like owners, and so will you. PSG is a company of owners who take results personally. You will be trusted to run your workstream, surface issues early, and make the call.
  • Support, not manage. Our model is built on collaboration, not hierarchy. Leadership is here to back you and clear the road, not to look over your shoulder.
  • Equity upside, tied to what you build. Beyond base and bonus, you share in the equity of a scaled, PE-backed platform, with upside tied to a future transaction.
  • Room to build something. PSG is growing fast and the accounting function is still taking shape. If you are energized by bringing order to a fast-moving organization, there is real room here to make your mark.

What You’ll Own

Month-end close across your portfolio

  • Own and execute the full close process for 8 to 10 partner companies each month, driving a clean, on-time close with consistent timelines, standardized checklists, and little to no dependency on company-level accounting resources

Reconciliations and balance-sheet integrity

  • Perform and maintain all balance sheet reconciliations across your portfolio, identifying and resolving discrepancies proactively so accounts stay clean and audit-ready at all times

Standardization and process building

  • Develop and implement standardized close processes, reconciliation templates, and accounting workflows across every business in your portfolio, creating consistency where fragmentation exists today

Internal controls

  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls across your portfolio, identifying risks, documenting procedures, and implementing improvements that protect business assets and keep each company compliant

Partnership with the businesses

  • Work closely with the local management teams and operational leaders to improve financial literacy, ensure accurate data capture at the source, and align accounting practices with the realities of each operation

Consolidation and cross-functional support

  • Support corporate consolidation processes and deliver reporting accurately and on schedule to meet PE-level expectations
  • Partner with finance, operations, and corporate teams to keep accounting, reporting, and planning aligned across the business

What This Role Is Not

  • A people-management role. You personally own execution from open to close, working with a lean corporate team.
  • A passive reporting function. We expect you to build and improve the processes, not just run what already exists.
  • A corporate staff seat removed from the business. You will be a genuine partner to the local teams who run each business and own financial outcomes across your whole portfolio.
  • A finished, stable environment. PSG is growing rapidly, and this role is for someone energized by building structure in a dynamic organization.

What Success Looks Like in Your First Year

  • Clean, on-time closes across all 8 to 10 of your partner companies every month, with no surprises and no heroics, just reliable execution
  • Fully reconciled balance sheets across your portfolio, with a documented, repeatable reconciliation process in place
  • Standardized close processes and checklists adopted across every business, consistency that did not exist before you arrived
  • Strong working relationships with the local management teams, who see you as their trusted remote financial partner: responsive and easy to work with
  • Recognition from the Corporate Controller and CFO as a reliable leader who elevates the overall accounting function

Who You Are

  • The background. 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a foundation in public accounting, audit preferred, and time inside a PE-backed or fast-scaling, multi-entity business.
  • Ready to own it. You might be a senior accountant or accounting manager today who has operated at real scale and is ready to own a portfolio outright, or you might already carry an Assistant Controller title. We weigh the scale you have handled and the process maturity you bring over the exact title on your resume.
  • Month-end close expertise. Deep, hands-on experience running close processes and reconciliations across multiple separate operating companies, each with its own books, not divisions or branches of one company. You have built close checklists, tightened timelines, and held the line on accuracy under pressure.
  • Multi-entity background. Experience managing accounting across multiple standalone businesses, each with its own books, and comfort with consolidations and complex reporting structures.
  • Process builder. A demonstrated ability to bring structure and standardization to fragmented or evolving accounting functions. You do not just follow process, you create it.
  • Self-sufficient operator. You thrive working independently in a remote environment, manage your own workload, meet deadlines without hand-holding, and surface issues before they become problems.
  • PE-backed mindset. You understand the rigor, pace, and reporting expectations of a private-equity-backed business, and you have operated under tight close timelines and investor-grade standards.

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay runs $125,000 to $145,000 a year, set by your experience. On top of that, an annual performance bonus rewards the results you drive, and equity in the platform gives you real upside tied to a future transaction.

Beyond the paycheck, the benefits are built to take care of you:

  • Health, covered the way you actually use it. Medical, dental, and vision through Cigna, with three medical plans to choose from, plus HSA and FSA options that let you set aside tax-free dollars for care.
  • A 401(k) match worth taking. A Safe Harbor 401(k) that matches up to 4 percent of your pay, with immediate 100 percent vesting. Contribute Roth or traditional, your call.
  • A safety net for the unexpected. Optional life and AD&D, short- and long-term disability, and legal coverage, all at group rates you would not get on your own.
  • Real support for real life. A free, confidential assistance program for you and your whole household, from counseling to legal and financial help, plus optional pet insurance.
  • Time to live. Paid time off and company holidays.

The Setup

  • Fully remote within the United States, with the flexibility to do your best work from a reliable home office
  • Built around the monthly close, which means focused stretches and firm deadlines at predictable points each month

Ready to Own It?

At PSG, you will have real ownership over a meaningful portfolio and the chance to build something from the ground up. You will be deeply connected to the business, partnering with operators who value your expertise and a corporate finance team that treats you as a genuine peer.

This is a rare opportunity to join a scaled, PE-backed platform at an inflection point, with equity upside tied to a future transaction and a clear path for career growth as the business continues to expand.

If you are energized by ownership, process-building, and the chance to make your mark across a growing portfolio, we would love to meet you. Apply today and let’s talk.
